Favorite Authors

I have been tagged by my friend Ella to speak about my favorite authors. (yeah, books!) So here is a few comments on my favorite authors.

Who is your favorite author and why?

… this is harder than I thought! I will have to say (besides God, the Author of Scripture, of course) that John Piper, Jerry Bridges, and Elisabeth Elliot are my favorites. (sorry I couldn’t narrow it down to one!) I like John Piper’s amazing solid writings that always expands my views and encourage my heart. He focused on Scripture and is one of the most passionate people I have ever seen/read/watched. Jerry Bridges is another great author that leaves me broken and strengthened (yes, that is possible) with every book I read. Right now I am going through Respectable Sins (as I mentioned before) and that is one of the best books I have ever read. He is such a gracious author. Elisabeth Elliot is liked by many including myself. Her gift of writing is always inspiring and revealing. Her love for the Lord and joyful acceptance of hardships is refreshing to a weary soul. I have a few of her books on my wish list.

Who was your first favorite author and why?

*digging back into the archives of my mind* I think Louisa May Alcott was my first favorite author. I enjoyed her books like Little Women, Old Fashioned Girl, and Rose in Bloom when I was a young. Which is kinda funny, because now I rarely ever read fiction… maybe I need to make time for that?

Who is the newest addition to your favorite authors and why?

Probably C.J. Mahaney. I recently read The Cross Centered Life and it was life changing. Now I am trying to get my hands on more of his stuff. I love how he writes about centering on the gospel in everyday life.

Now I think I am supposed to tag 4 to 6 people…

I tag: Emily, Anna, Rebekah, Allison, and Megan.

Here are the rules:

1. Link the person who tagged you.
2. Answer the above questions.
3. Tag 4-6 people.

Hope you enjoyed! For those of you not tagged, what are your favorite authors?

  1. Yes, you should try some fiction. It is wonderful to sit back and be transported sometimes!

I love a lot of non-fiction writers (but as they have only written one or two books, I didn’t count them!)

  2. I love that Jerry Bridges book, “Respectable Sins!” Though I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read from him (the only one that comes to mind at the moment, though, is “Pursuit of Holiness”), I especially like that one!

Piper is definitely also a favorite. “When I don’t Desire God.”

  3. Thanks for sharing.
    I like your blog.

  4. I admit that I haven’t read books by any of your favourite authors. I want to read some books by Elizabeth Elliot when I have the time and I want to read Don’t Waste Your Life as well…when I have time.

  5. Such good pics, Kaysie! I discovered John Piper only about a year ago, when I read “Don’t Waste Your Life”. Jerry Bridges and Elisabeth Elliot have been long time favorites. I’ve been trying to get my hands on a copy of “Trusting God”, by Jerry Bridges. I think that’s what it’s called…anyway, have you read it?

  6. That is funny because I just bought “Trusting God” a few days ago! I am really excited to read it. Bridges is so great. :)

  7. You mentioned my favourite authors too! I will do mine on my blog very soon… :)

  8. Favorite authors…looks like fun…!

I enjoyed taking a look around your site after finding you on the ModesTeen pledge! Keep writing for Jesus!

  9. That’s funny, because I read mostly fiction as oppose to non-fiction!

Favorite authors…that’s a hard question! I really like C.S. Lewis’ works, and Louisa May Alcott is still among my favorites. To be transported into old times, I like Jane Austin a lot. :-)

That’s all I can think of at the top of my head, but I’m sure there are more!
More’s the case, I like particular books and not always all the works of one
    author. Anyway…
    God bless!

  10. Hey Kaysie, I just started reading a John Piper book a couple months ago, and I’m enjoying that. But I really think you should read some more fiction, In case I haven’t mentioned it before… I LOVE C.S.LEWIS!!! :) I think that some fiction books (mainly by christian authors) really show me more about my faith and take your mind on great adventures. (like The Chronicles Of Narnia) :)
well, that was just my little “fiction advertisement”! :)
