This is Our God

“A fountain for the thirsty, a lover for the lonely,
This is our God.
He brings glory to the humble and crowns for the faithful,
This is our God.
So call upon His Name, He is mighty to save,
This is our God.”

I love the lyrics to Chris Tomlin’s song “This is our God”. Written above are some of my favorite lines. It happens when I clearly behold the Lord’s greatness and tenderness towards me, that my cares, worries, and fretting about this life evaporates into the distance. God becomes central and in clear focus. Something far bigger is before me, and I can but kneel in awe. I am reminded that this is my God, and this is who He is.

He is the satisfaction for my thirsty soul. He is my Lover in loneliness. Glory will He give to the humble, and crowns will He bestow to the faithful… this is our God! (This all reminds me of what I have been learning in the Beatitudes) And although sometimes I fail and listen to the whispers of the enemy lying about God’s character, Jesus will not leave me to doubt in His faithfulness. Looking into His glorious face I see the truth. He is near, He does satisfy, and He always loves.

“O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure… For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat… He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” Isaiah 25:1, 4, 8-9
