Amen. God's been convicting me about my words as well. I've noticed that I say a lot of unnecessary things that don't really build up. They don't necessarily tear down, but they're vain because they don't do anybody any good.

Hi Kaysie!

I just read the verse tonight -- I have it on my corkboard! It is such a reminder to me that my thoughts must first be pure before my words will be. Thanks for your encouragement!

Isn't God amazing? The post you wrote this morning is EXACTLY what our bible study this afternoon was addressing! Without cleaning the inside of the vessel (the heart), it is not very fruitful only to clean the outside (the mouth). The heart will eventually speak the truth of it's condition. Jesus speaks of this in Matthew 7:6 "This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me".
Thanks Kaysie for a great post...we constantly need to be reminded to check the condition of our hearts.

Good question!
On the basis that the Holy Spirit changed the condition of our hearts at conversion, (see Ezekiel 11:19, John 14:26, Ephesians 1:13-14) I would biblically and practically advise 1) prayer, as David did, and 2) renewing our hearts through Scripture.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? :)
