The Bible is a Treasure

Indeed it is the Treasure of all treasures. We as Christians believe it is the inspired Word of the Living God, breathed out by the Creator of the universe, (2 Timothy 3:16) able to convict and discern motives and the thoughts of our hearts. This is a Book that can discern the reader’s mind, pierce the reader’s heart, and stir the reader’s soul. Amazing.

How would embracing this knowledge effect the time we spend unfolding the Word of God? What would happen to our attitudes, our understandings, and our motives if we read the Word with a reverence and deep joy as one holding the Treasure of all treasures in our hands? Would we take it to heart more? Read more? Share more?

I would like to share with you some of my favorite quotes about the Bible’s infinite worth which I found in the Preface of the ESV Bible:

“This Book is the most valuable thing the world affords. Here is Wisdom; this is the royal Law; these are the living Oracles of God.” With these words the Moderator of the Church of Scotland hands a Bible to the new monarch in Britain’s coronation service. These words echo the King James Bible translators, who wrote in 1611: “God’s sacred Word . . . is that inestimable treasure that excelleth all the riches of the earth.”

I love that quote.

And I believe if we begin to view the Bible as a infinite treasure - given to mankind by God Himself – we can sincerely and passionately take God’s Word to our hearts and change us from the inside out. This belief and understanding will help transform the mundane practice of “Bible reading” into a quest to uncover buried treasure that can change the world and the human heart forever.

  1. Wow, Kaysie, this post is so good! I had to leave a comment. I feel exactly the same way about the Bible. It literally is a miraculous book, both in how it was written, preserved and handed down through the years, and how it works in us who believe today! I was converted to true and living faith, simply by reading the Bible. Whenever I think about it, I am deeply moved with thankfulness to God for His abundant mercy.
Just wanted to share my joy.
    Thanks,
    Penn

  3. Very good. I was just thinking about this last night! Reflecting on the book of Psalms as a whole I noticed a few things. One of them is the whole chapter of 119, the longest chapter in Psalms, and how it is all about how great the word of God is. So this was just on my mind!
    In Christ,

Olivia, Psalms 119 is one of my favorite chapters in Psalms. Like you said, it speaks so much on the value of God’s Word. Very encouraging.

Thank you for all your sweet words about my pictures…. I will consider the blog idea… maybe! :)
Great post Kaysie. I too believe that the Bible is one of the greatest treasures God could have given us. It is His love letter to us. I hate it when people act as though we need something else to speak to unbelievers. All they need to hear is the Word.
    Love ya sis!
    Courtney
