Forgetting the Lord
“Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits,
Who forgives all you iniquity,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeemed you from the pit,
Who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
Who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.” (Psalms 103:1-5)
The human mind is a productive vessel of absorbing information. It processes and digests thousand of gigabytes of information in a matter of seconds. Our minds are constantly reviewing data, memorizing new facts, evaluating it’s own status, and forming an opinion… even while you read this post.
It’s keen ability to store and remember facts and figures, places and faces, moments and memories is a marvel to all who study it. But, our minds do have one downfall.
We sometimes forget things.
Specifically in a Christian’s life, the tendency to forget is serious battle, because when we forget what God has done or said, we quickly loose sight of everything. Our belief in and remembrance of God’s character and faithfulness sustains our hearts and strengthens our faith.
Throughout the pages of Old Testament history, God was fervently having to remind His people about Himself. “Remember what I have done for you…”, “Remember what I did in Egypt…”, “Set up stones so that you won’t forget what I’ve done…” We so easily forget who He is, what He’s done, and where He has taken us.
This Psalm is a great reminder. “Forget not all His benefits…” He is our Forgiver, Healer, Redeemer, Provider, and Satisfier. He is faithful never to forget us. Let’s be faithful never to forget Him.

I'm Kaysie, 22. Jesus follower. Lover of sunshine, trees, hot tea, books, music, family, the gospel, poetry and Barnes and Nobles. Has a weird obsession with paper. Over-analyzes almost everything. Adores simplicity. Lucky for you.

As our pastor put it, we forget the things we should remember and remember the things we should forget (when somebody does you wrong). Thanks for posting that.
It’s sad how easily we “forget” the Lord. Thanks for a great reminder.
Another great post Kaysie! Thanks for the reminder. I love Psalms 103! One of my favorite Psalms.

Excellent post, Kaysie! I read Psalm 78 this morning–a long history of Israel’s failures, but one of the strongest things Yahweh commanded was for them not to forget His works. It seems to me that recalling His works leads us directly into worship and trust–exactly as He has designed. Blessings! Abigail @ Pearls and Diamonds
Amen. Good reminder to “remember all of His works.” And not to “Forget all of His benefits.”
