Alabaster Heart: Megan

I would like to introduce you to one of my new blogging friends, Megan. She has been such a blessing to me through her comments and emails, and I am excited for you to get to know her. For more of her writings, check out her blog.

Hello! My name is Megan and I am almost nineteen years old. I am the daughter of, in my eyes, the most wonderful parents in the world, Tom and Elli. My father is a preacher of the Gospel and Executive Director of Global Response Network (GRN) and my mother is a stay at home, home schooling, Proverbs 31 wife and mother. I was home schooled my entire school life by my mother and I graduated in June of 2007. Currently, I am working by my father’s side as secretarial assistant for GRN. I live at home with my parents and my two younger brothers, John (15), Jeremiah (2) and soon to be born into this world, Matthew Stephen. We live in the lovely, bluegrass state of Kentucky.

1) How and when did you first come to know Jesus as your Lord?

I have always lived in a Christian home with loving parents and siblings, so it really wasn’t a surprise when I gave my heart to Jesus when I was around 5 or 6 years old. I think it was when a special speaker came to the church we were going to at the time. But, as many of us learn, knowing about Christ isn’t the same has living for Christ. Many years later, on January 15, 2005, after having a long talk with my dad about my life, I felt the conviction of God flow through me and open my eyes. So, at the ripe old age of fifteen, I rededicated and officially gave my life over to God to be Lord and Master over it. All of this took place in my favorite spot at the time…our barn.

2) What has been the biggest change in your life as a result of salvation?

Having the Holy Spirit inside of me and being filled with greater love and compassion for others. I also have been filled with true joy, peace and higher standards.

3) What is your favorite thing about Jesus?

His mercy, forgiveness, and love and way of helping me stay on track with Him.

4) What do you feel God’s purpose for your life is?

As a Christian, I believe that my overall purpose is to make known the gospel to those who do not know Christ as their Savior, Lord and Master. I believe that God’s future purpose for me is to someday be a Proverbs 31 wife and mother. But until that time comes, I find great joy, honor and fulfillment in preparing for that calling while still at home and under the authority of my parents. My dream is to someday have a horse ranch and do a summer camp for young people from troubled homes and for children/adults with special needs. The latter has been on my heart since my brother, Jeremiah, was born with Downs Syndrome.

5) What is the hardest thing for you to live out as a set apart woman?

To not live by the world’s standards. I am committed to courtship vs. dating, and seeing pretty much all of my friends over the years doing the opposite, can be challenging at times.

6) What woman has impacted your walk with God more than anyone else?

Definitely my mom, Elli. She has so much strength from the Lord, both spiritually and emotionally. I want to be like her in so many ways. Others have been Amy Carmichael, Mother Theresa, and some very close family friends, Jody and Kristy.

7) In your daily walk with God, what are a few things that you do to remain renewed and focused on God?

I read inspirational and encouraging blog posts by other young women like myself and I listen to praise and worship music. I also try to keep my heart open to any kind of wisdom and truth about God’s Word that I can get from listening or talking to others.

8 ) If you could say one thing to other Christian girls what would you say?

You are a princess in the Kingdom of God. A daughter of the King of Kings. Live for the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And be willing to commit to him every breath that you take, every beat of your heart, and every drop of your blood. He is worthy!

9) What do you do to entertain yourself?

Read, watch movies, write blog posts, play with my cat and dog, go hunting, crochet, bake, go horseback riding and learn how to sew (which is entertainment for my whole family :) ) are a few things that I like to do.

10) What are some of your favorite books?

Bible, The Hiding Place, Waiting for Her Isaac, The Courtship of Sarah McLean, The Love Comes Softly series, Do Hard Things, The Elsie Dinsmore Series, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Gentle Annie…

11) What is one of your favorite things to do in the course of a day?

Play on the floor with my little brother, Jeremiah, after I come home from the office.

12) What is your favorite bible verse?

1 Timothy 4:12

13) As far as music goes, who is your favorite artist and why? (Also name a couple of your favorite songs)

Well, actually there are many that I like but one would probably be Aaron Shust. I really like the sincerity of the words in his songs. They tend to not just talk about God, but rather they can be a tool to talk to Him.

14) Can you describe yourself in one word?

Most of the time I would say that I am quiet.

15) What is your favorite quote? (From someone other than Christ)

“Jesus is worthy of every breath that we take, every beat of our hearts and every drop of our blood.” – My Dad

16) What is your favorite thing about this blog?

Kaysie is so real and open. Everything that I have read so far on here has been so close to my heart already. Very refreshing!
