Winter’s Arrival

IE349-826

I woke up this morning and autumn was on the ground. It seems to have happened overnight. And I wasn’t prepared for it! The trees around our house appear to be shivering in the frigid temperature with nothing to adorn their branches. The fallen leaves are crunchy and brown. There is a smell of fireplace smoke blowing through our yard. A puffy cloud of gray covers my mouth when I talk outdoors.

Winter is here.

As I stepped outside this morning to run around with my dog I noticed the sky seems to have grown. I could see blue for miles in the distance. The trees have shed their autumn attire and made way for the cheerful blue sky to take center stage. The world seems bigger today.

Time to unpack scarves and mittens, thick coats and boots. Our fireplace is ready for a roaring blaze. I caught myself humming a Christmas carol yesterday. The candle burning downstairs fills the house with the smells of winter holidays, spicy and warm. With my tea mug by my side, and soft fluffy socks on my feet, I am ready to welcome colder days and cozy nights.

“You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter.” (Ps. 74:17)

God’s astounding creativity expressed in the seasons simply leaves me awestruck at times. Who could have come up with such beautiful seasonal glory displayed among all the earth, beside the Lord? Even our most marvelous expressions of imagination are feeble when compared to His creativity. He is the Artist of artists.

  1. The seasons always leave me awestruck. It is pretty much winter here, and while it’s not my favorite, the Lord is still clearly visible.

  2. Ella, you have been in winter longer than I have! Winter is not my favorite either, but like you said, God is visible in all the seasons. :)

  3. “He is the Artist of artists.” My thoughts exactly as I welcome this new season. Yesterday I knew that winter had come to northwest PA, and I am lovin’ it…so much that I had to blog about it last night!

  4. Cozying up on the couch with a cup of tea in the cold weather and writing, drawing, watching a movie, enjoying some music, or reading a book is one of my favorite past times. I too have caught myself humming Christmas music, and am hopelessly addicted to listening to it already. :) This time of year is so beautiful, and yes God is amazingly apparent in every season. I’m enjoying watching His artistry unfold before my eyes once again! :)

    Thanks for the beautiful post!
    In His arms,

  5. I can’t decide if I’m excited winter is here already, or sad. But it’s pretty much winter here too. Christmas music and decorations are in the stores, it’s cold enough to snow, although it hasn’t yet, and everything whispers “Winter is here.” I loved this post…you have such an amazing writer voice!

  6. Rosanne, oh, PA is cold cold! :) Your post was lovely…

Abigail, sounds wonderful… I love doing those things too. It is funny how catching Christmas music is. And it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet!
God’s artistry is stunning is every season. Thanks for stopping by!

Arianna, I feel the same way. I know we are looking at a long cold season, but I am determined to enjoy each season. Thank you for your kind words. Your comments mean a lot.

  7. I was singing Christmas carols two weeks ago! :-) LOL I am excited for winter and snow this year, mainly because I’m tired of summer. I’ve always loved the snow, and cold weather is nice every now and then. It’s funny, the rest of my family’s turned completely Southern excepting myself and my younger brother! We’re the only ones who appreciate the snow now. :-)

  8. Kasie, I kinda am excited about the winter… but I get tired of it quickly. I do love it when it snows though! Be careful, the south will get to you! ;)

  9. Yes, winter is defiantly here! We have snow on the ground (though it looks really lame right now because some of it melted).

Also, I love soft fluffy socks too. :D
