Tea and Books: November
So I am a little delayed in getting this post published… November is an inch away from ending, but better late than forgotten. This month has been a rather good reading month for me, which is surprising considering the rise in activities for me lately. I have been working on making time for reading consistently, since life seems to not make room for it.
Books:
Radical Womanhood by Carolyn McCulley
I recently obtained my copy of this book at the Desiring God conference and also met the author and had her sign it. It is definitely a call for radical femininity in our culture. More like a condensed soup version of women’s history class, McCulley dissects and declutters the women’s movement since early American times and gives us glimpses into the women’s lives who shaped our society today. It you are interested in feministic reform and history – you need this book. Not recommended for younger readers, since McCulley deals with some difficult issues.
Uncommon Beauty by Cynthia Heald
A beautiful treasure of a book describing a few characteristics of true beauty in womanhood. Qualities like passionate, selflessness, and wisdom all comprise a beautiful woman according to God’s definition. I have enjoyed the reminder and refreshment found in this book.
Encouragment: How Words Change Our Lives by Gordon Cheng
I just started this book a few days ago on a trip, and already have found it holds ture quality. I have always prayed and hoped to be a faithfully encouraging person, so learning more about this need is a great help. I am looking forward to journeying through it’s pages.
Tea:
I have been enjoying an abundance of Apple Cider Chai. One of my dear friends sent me a packet of chai the other day, and coupled with our local apple cider makes for a delicious morning drink. It simply smells like holidays. I love it. Colder weather is wonderful if only for the enjoyment of hot, comforting tea.
Alright, now it’s your turn. What have you been reading and sipping?
I'm Kaysie, 22. Jesus follower. Lover of sunshine, trees, hot tea, books, music, family, the gospel, poetry and Barnes and Nobles. Has a weird obsession with paper. Over-analyzes almost everything. Adores simplicity. Lucky for you.

These books look pretty good. I think I’ll have to check one of them out. I really want a book about being a Biblical Woman. You know, how to live my life as one. Any suggestions?
I love tea and books posts!
I’ve never read any of those books you mentioned – I’ll have to check them out! Currently I’m reading “Don’t Waste Your Life” (which I commented a while ago was coming up on my list), and for fiction “Sandition”, an unfinished work by Jane Austin, also ‘Sylvie and Bruno Concluded’ by Lewis Carrol.
Mom recently bought some holiday special teas from Celestial Seasonings, like “Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride” and “Sugar Plum Spice”. I can’t wait to try them! Right now I’ve been drinking a lot of medicinal herbal teas to help shake off this cold I’m battling.
Sounds like good books! I read mostly fictional or devotional books. I’m not too big into non-fiction. But I think my favorite books for young Christian women are Elizabeth George’s books. She’s an amazing writer!
You have been keeping busy. I have been wading through Dickens myself ALL of November! Ugh =)
Glad you like the tea =)
Lori, oh that is a hard question!
There are many great books on the subject. The books I mentioned in this post would be a good start, and then there is Authentic Beauty by Leslie Ludy (that is a good one), and many others as well. I like Elisabeth Elliot and Nancy Leigh Demoss too. They both have great books about womanhood. That is all I can think of right now…
Kasie, Don’t Waste Your Life is one of my favorites!
I have so many quotes from that books penciled down in various journals. Good stuff. The other books sound great too. I might look into that Austin book.
I haven’t tried that many Christmas teas, but you have wet my appetite…
Ella, oh, Dickens… praying for you!
Thank you for my tea. I love to walk through the kitchen and open the pouch just to inhale the aroma. It is wonderful.
Hi:)
I really am enjoying looking through your posts!
I love to read, and though I ‘m not a fan of hot tea, I do love iced.
God Bless <3
Alivia, I am so glad you are enjoying my posts. It’s ok if you don’t like hot tea, I love iced tea a lot too.
Hope you visit again!
Hi Kaysie!
I just finised reading “When Joy Came to Stay” by Karen Kingsbury. A friend of mine said that she was a good writer, so I decided to check out a couple of her books from the library! She is a good writer! I’m currently reading “Like Dandelion Dust” by Karen Kingsbury.
I agree with Arianna. I enjoy reading fiction and devotional books. I’m not too big on the non-fiction.
Some hot tea actually sounds really good right now, because it’s pretty cold right now. Hmm…now if we only had some better flavors than herbal ones……:)
