Branches Laden With Snow

December 1st… can you believe it? Christmas is approaching whether we are prepared or not. I didn’t think I was in the “holiday spirit” yet, but when I awoke this morning and happened to glance out the window, the yard was dusted in a layer of snow. The tree branches embellishing my window are lined with this silvery miracle, and I am kinda happy winter is here. I forget every time just how captivating the frozen droplets look on the nature outside. But I like this surprise.

Snow reminds me of many things. Like forgiveness. Memories of past Christmases. Purity. Snowball fights. And the weird delight of freezing fingers and toes, but always having warmth in my heart. Snow is simply beautiful, and like having it around for awhile. God’s creativity continually leaves me in awe. You are so amazing, God.

  1. I know what you mean! December already? Where has the time escaped to? But I love Winter the first few months. After awhile, the snow and cold and frozen toes can get old. But those first few snowfalls, Christmas music playing softly in the background, beautiful lit candles, a cozy fire, and pretty scarfs are all Wintery things I love ;)

  2. It is hard to believe…..it is December??!! But now, you have winter before me =) I don’t have snow…..yet.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

  3. I can’t believe Christmas is almost here! I promise I only just turned the calendar to November! It feels like time is speeding up and days aren’t really 24 hours any longer. Part of me thinks it’s because modern society demands a fast pace and it’s nearly impossible to slow down and enjoy things any more. On the other hand, that makes us relish them all the more. (But there’s still that nagging feeling that I’m not doing something else)

No snow here yet. But a cold wind from the WNW (given to us by the Rockies and Canada) fills the air. Despite freezing when I’m outside, I’m kind of loving it. It’s invigorating.

  4. This weather always comes with the smell of burning wood. For me, that is the comfort of winter. That smell means family, fresh air, learning history & heritage…and hot chocolate & cards!

I look forward to driving down south, listening to that same old christmas album, church at dawn on christmas, and visiting those certain few roadside stands that represent the holidays for my family.

  5. Arianna, I know in a few months the winter will probably get old, like you said… but I am hoping to enjoy it while it lasts. :)

Ella, no – I can’t believe it! Where did the time go? ;) So we beat you to the snow?

Lori, I agree that our culture makes Christmas a headache rather than a time of joy and thankfulness like God intends it to be. But we must fight against it! :)
I bet you will get some snow real soon. Keep watching…

Jillian, there are so many smells that winter brings. And it seems they all inspire memories. I love Christmas in the South. Nothin’ like it. ;)

  6. I love snow! Today looked like a blizzard outside our house on a hill, and it’s quite chilly. Since it’s December 1st, we decorated our living and family room with Christmas decor – tomorrow we’ll set up our tree. Now that Thanksgiving is ‘long gone’, all the cranberry bread and nuts and other Thanksgiving treats have been eaten, it’s starting to feel like Christmas.

I’m ready for it. :-) It is the first day of advent too! Mom’s going to begin to read our advent story tonight…

    Happy December! :-)

  7. Hey Kaysie!
Joy of joys! We had snow flurries here in GA this afternoon!! Sadly, none of it stuck. :( I love seeing snow though. It reminds me of how clean and white God washes us from our sins!

  8. Oops, i mean second day of advent. ‘My bad.

  9. Hi Kaysie!

Oooh, I love snow! :) We didn’t get any here where I live in Georgia… although it was a remarkably blustery day. :)

I’m with you on being amazed that it’s December already! Where has the time gone?? :)

I love the new blog look!
    Blessings!
    Julia

  10. I simply can’t believe it either! We actually had snow fluries in AL today, which is exciting for my family, since we have always lived in the west and never got snow!

  11. Kasie, yes, with Thanksgiving behind us, let the Christmas activities begin! :) I can’t wait to start our Advent evenings too. It is one of the highlights of the Christmas season for me.

Allison, snow in GA too?! Wow! :) Snow reminds me of God’s forgiveness too.

Julia, maybe you’ll get snow soon. December surely has snuck up on us…
I am glad you like the new look!

Nicole K., I am glad you got some snow too. It surely is a delight that I don’t want to take for granted. :)

  12. Ugh, that’s not fair Allison! I’m in Georgia too, near Athens, and we didn’t see a peck of that stuff. I grew up in Pennsylvania and New York, so being in Georgia it can be very hard for me to feel Christmas-y without the snow. Last year we were sweating at the Christmas tree farm as we searched for the perfect one- it was so warm.
